TeaserI was feeling a little bit down at the weekend so to cheer myself up I turned to The Nothing Girl by Jodi Taylor. I read it a year or so ago but had forgotten just how great it is. I had intended just to read the odd couple of pages but once I started I couldn’t stop and ended up reading the whole thing from start to finish. It made me laugh, it made me cry, it made me smile (a lot) but mostly it just made me feel all warm and fuzzy so I had to use it for this weeks teaser.

The Nothing GirlMy Teaser

Weddings are a long, rain-drenched nightmare when the only sounds are your relatives venomously hissing in dark corners. I don’t know how anyone who doesn’t have a giant, golden horse gets through them.

~ page 100

If you like books with eccentric characters, romance, a tiny bit of mystery and lots of animals (including an imaginary/guardian angel horse called Thomas) I’d definitely recommend.

Happy reading everyone.

Teaser

This bank holiday weekend turned into a bit of a Talon saga read-a-thon with all three books read over the last four days. I finished the latest book Soldier late last night and I think it might take me a while to recover from THAT ending!!! Julie Kagawa is evil. How am I supposed to wait for the next one?

Anyway, while I’m obsessing over dragons and soldiers and trying to guess what happens next here’s this weeks teaser.

Soldier (Talon, #3)My Teaser

For just a moment, I remembered the words of a certain human soldier long ago, when I first accused him of paranoia. It’s not being paranoid, if they’re really out to get you.

Teaser

I scheduled this post over a week ago as today will be the final day of my holiday so I really don’t know what I’m currently reading (if anything). I am however planning to make a start on Talon by Julie Kagawa so it seemed like a good choice for this weeks teaser.

Talon (Talon, #1)My Teaser

“He was about my age, maybe a little older, with cropped hair that glinted a pale gold in the sunlight. He was tan, lean and muscular, as if he spent most of his time out in the sun and the rest at the gym”

Per last week’s post I’m not sure what access I’ll have to my blog but will respond to any comments and work my way round everyone’s teasers when I can.

Happy reading everyone.

Teaser

This week my teaser comes from You Know Me Well by David Levithan and Nina LaCour. It’s a YA contemporary story about Mark and Kate who meet during Pride week in San Francisco at a time when they each need a friend the most. This is my first book by either of these authors and I’m enjoying it a lot.

You Know Me WellMy Teaser

“I am so mad at him and I am so in love with him, and it hurts to be realizing it like this. Would I fight for him? I have been fighting for him for years. And I’m losing. No matter what I do, I’m losing. But I have to fight anyway.”

Teaser

I’m between books again at the moment so this week’s teaser is from Who’s That Girl by Mhairi McFarlane which I finished at the weekend. If you like chick lit I’d definitely recommend. It’s about a woman who somehow ends up at the center of a scandal at work and flees to her family home to hide. She’s tasked with ghost writing a biography for a famous actor while she’s there but the two don’t exactly hit it off at the start. It’s funny, it’s sad and it’s completely addictive reading.

Who’s That Girl?My Teaser

The thing about her reputation, she finally accepted – it was like Elliot’s anonymity. She’d given it away and she was never getting it back.

Teaser

This week my teaser comes from Jane Steele by Lyndsay Faye which is kind of a gothic re telling of Jane Eyre. I say kind of because the main character refers to the literary heroine quite regularly and compares their lives and circumstances. Their lives are fairly similar, both are orphaned, sent off to the worst possible boarding school and end up working as governesses but Ms Steele has slightly more flexible morals and beliefs than Ms Eyre.

This has been one of my favourite reads this year and definitely one I’d recommend.

Jane SteeleMy Teaser

Some cities bustle, some meander, I have read; London blazes, and it incinerates. London is the wolf’s maw. From the instant I arrived there, I loved every smouldering inch of it.

Teaser

As I’m currently between books I’m being a bit of a cheat again this week and using one I recently finished, Flawed by Cecelia Ahern. I’ve always been a big fan of Cecelia Ahern and while this book marks a move into a new genre for her (YA dystopian) I still loved it. You can find my full review here.

Flawed (Flawed, #1)My Teaser

When you see something, it can’t be unseen. When you hear a sound, it can’t be unheard. I know, deep down, that this evening I have learned something that can never be unlearned. And the part of my world that is altered will never be the same.

Teaser

Over the weekend (and by that I mean from 11pm on Saturday until 2am on Sunday) I read A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness. I only meant to read a couple of chapters but just couldn’t put it down (sleep is highly over rated anyway). It’s really and truly incredible and so beautifully written that I just had to use for this weeks teaser.

My TeaserA Monster Calls

The monster seemed to grow before Connor’s eyes, getting taller and broader. A sudden hard wind swirled up around them, and the monster spread its arms out wide, so wide they seemed to reach opposite horizons, so wide they seemed big enough to encompass the world.

If you do want to give this book a try I strongly recommend getting your hands on a physical book (I got mine from the library). It’s definitely worth it for the illustrations.

Happy reading everyone.

Teaser

This week I’m in the middle of a re read of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (aka Sorcerer’s Stone). I can’t imagine anyone hasn’t heard of it but if you haven’t read it you really should. It’s been a while since I read it, probably more than 10 years, so it’s a little bit strange picking it up after all this time.

For my teaser I couldn’t resist a bit of Severus Snape. Just reading this I can’t help but picture Alan Rickman giving a variation of this speech in the film. He really was perfectly cast.

My TeaserHarry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (Harry Potter, #1)

“I don’t expect you will really understand the beauty of the softly simmering cauldron with it’s shimmering fumes, the delicate power of liquids that creep through human veins, bewitching the mind, ensnaring the senses … I can teach you to bottle fame, brew glory, even stopper death – if you aren’t as big a bunch of dunderheads as I usually have to teach.”

Teaser

This week my teaser comes from Morning Star by Pierce Brown. It’s the final book in the Red Rising Trilogy which after a bit of a shaky start I have to say I’m absolutely loving. I’ve reached that stage where I want to know how it will end but I don’t want it to be over (and I’m slightly worried that not everyone will make it). Anyway…

My TeaserMorning Star (Red Rising, #3)

I see a man trying his best in a world that doesn’t give a shit. It breaks my heart.

Yet I don’t move, because I know I’m not witnessing the death of a friend as much as I’m seeing the rebirth of another.
