The WWW Wednesday meme is currently hosted by Sam @ Taking on a World of Words and is a great way to do a weekly update on what you’ve been reading and what you have planned.
To take part all you have to do is answer the following three questions:
- What are you currently reading?
- What did you recently finish reading?
- What do you think you’ll read next?
Currently Reading
I started reading I Know Who You Are by Alice Feeney on Monday and seem to be making pretty good progress with it. I was a big fan of the author’s previous novel, Sometimes I Lie, so I had high expectations for this one. I did initially find it a little hard to focus on but I think that’s more down to real life stuff (work, house, animals, lack of sleep etc) than the book but once I got used to the writing I was hooked. As I write this I’m around the 80% mark so I will no doubt be finished it all too soon.
On audio I’m back on The Diviners by Libba Bray as my library hold finally came in. I’m pretty sure I first started listening to this way back in November, and I’m still only around halfway through. Here’s hoping I manage to finish it this time before I lose my hold again (apparently there are 5 people waiting – so if I don’t it’ll be a while before I get it again).
Recently Finished
Yet again I seem to be feeling a little bit slumpy so only one book finished this week, Blood Heir by Amelie Wen Zhao. As the author has decided not to publish due to issues raised over some of the themes I’m not going to review (and I’m definitely not commenting on the controversy) but I will say that I hope she does manage to get her writing out there. Blood Heir is not perfect but I thought the world building and descriptions were wonderful and I really liked the character development. Hopefully there will be some re writes and this will be published (or if not this something else).
Reading Next
It’s my birthday this coming weekend so as I’ve mostly requested vouchers (no one’s brave enough to buy me actual books) I’m hoping I can go on a spree (as obviously I have nothing to read). I’ve already pre ordered Holy Sister by Mark Lawrence and I’m kind of tempted to grab a copy of Other Words for Smoke by Sarah Maria Griffin. ARC wise I’m thinking my next reads will likely be Wolfunter River by Rachel Caine or Close to the Edge by Toby Faber
Have you read any of the books on my list this week? Any others you’d recommend? As always please feel free to leave comments and links below.
Happy Reading ❤
I read about the Blood Heir controversy (I think around what should have been its release date) and it seems like such a shame. I obviously haven’t got access to a copy but I hope that she still gets her writing out there eventually, too, just in general.
I’m about 7% into Wolfhunter River and it’s off to a good start!

I somehow managed to miss the whole controversy and only stumbled on it when I was doing my Spring TBR post. I feel so sorry for the author and the way it all blew up at the very last second. She must have been so excited about getting her debut published and to have to pull it… I’m sure she’ll come back at some point though.
Really excited about Wolfhunter River. I probably do need to pick up a couple of other ARCs first (I’ve foolishly signed up for blog tours) but will be onto it soon.

Thank you. It will probably be a quiet one as unfortunately I have work on Monday 🙂 I would really recommend Sometimes I Lie and her latest book, she’s a great writer.

I still have Sometimes I Lie on my kindle, I’m happy to hear you enjoyed that one. I hope this one will be just as good. Happy reading Ali!

Sometimes I Lie was one of my faves of last year so I would definitely recommend. Not sure I Know Who You Are is quite as good but the second half has been really addictive.

I think I will have to add I Know Who You Are to my TBR, though I still haven’t read Sometimes I Lie yet either. Too many books too little time. I do have the first in the Rachel Caine series but haven’t read it yet. Is that a good series? Here is my WWW if interested: https://greatmorrisonmigration.wordpress.com/2019/04/03/www-wednesdays-april-3-2019/

I loved the first two books in the Rachel Caine series but I didn’t expect a book 3 as it seemed finished. I do think she can be guilty at times of letting series go on too long but hopefully we’re still early enough.

I’m in the same boat with people wanting to buy me books. Family members who know better just get me gift cards, but some friends have been dismayed that they can’t get me a specific book as a surprise, for fear that I’ll have it already. I hope you enjoy your birthday!

Yep I pretty much have all the books and not many of my friends read as much or the same kind of books I do. If I want a specific book I would need to request and I hate doing that.
Thank you.

Oh, wow, I hadn’t heard about Blood Heir, but it seems so sad that a writer would get so much negative pressure that they would simply decide not to publish their book. =/ What a shame.
Happy early birthday! I wish for you many good books to fill your shelves, either physical or virtual, whichever. xD
I hadn’t heard of The Red Sister, but oh my gosh, I so need to read this series! *flails* Bad-ass female assassins and stabiness and dark fantasy? So much yes!
Here’s my WWW Wednesday post.

I stumbled across it on Netgalley and couldn’t resist an Anastasia retelling. I thought the writing was good so am sure she’ll either re write or do something else. It does show the slightly scary power of social media.
Thank you, I’ll need to find space for all the books I have my eye on. Holy Sister should arrive tomorrow and I think I’ll be diving straight in.
You definitely need Red Sister, I mean it’s fighting nuns with a bit of a Harry Potter feel to it.

Yes. As a writer myself, the idea is just terrifying, and I know so many other writers, and I would just be devastated if that happened to them.
That sounds even better! I’m making a list for my next big eBay purchase (you know, when I clear up a little space on my bookshelf) and that’s been added. 😀

I just read The Diviners back in the fall and loved it. I’d like to find time to get to the next book in the series, but – so many books! https://teripolen.com/2019/04/03/www-wednesdays-what-am-i-reading-amreading-5/

Tell me about it. I’m only getting through the Diviners because it’s on audio from the library.
