Believe it or not I do stuff other than read (well occasionally) so I thought it would be fun to start doing a post on all of the non book things I’ve been loving. I also spotted a similar post over on Kristin Kraves Books so decided to copy her idea and do a monthly non book wrap up ๐ It was originally going to be non bookish stuff I’ve been loving but you’ll probably see pretty quickly that a lot of these do seem to have a bit of a book connection somewhere.ย
TV Shows
Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events (Netflix)
I know, this has been on Netflix for ages but I’ve only just started watching it and I’m absolutely loving it. And yes, it is totally bookish but I have to confess I’ve never read the books so the extent of my Lemony Snicket knowledge comes from the film with Jim Carey. Neil Patrick Harris is absolutely brilliant in it and the script is slightly mad but incredibly funny. It’s currently my new routine to watch a couple of episodes every Sunday night when I’m round at my parents house for dinner. I’ve even noticed my Dad glancing up from his tablet every so often so he seems to be tempted despite it totally not being his thing.
ย Bodyguard (BBC)
Starring Richard Madden (aka Rob Stark from Game of Thrones or the Prince from Cinderella if you prefer) this new drama on the BBC has had me on the edge of my seat. I’ve been finding recently that nothing really holds my attention for any length of time but wow, I couldn’t take my eyes off this. It’s all about a war veteran who’s assigned to protect a controversial politician (played by Keeley Hawes). She’s a high profile target with politics he doesn’t particularly agree with. There’s lots of action but what I’m really loving is how twisty it is and how you’re never sure who’s playing who or what their true motive is.
Movies
To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before (Netflix)
Yep I know this is absolutely everywhere at the moment and I wasn’t going to fall for the hype but guess what, I couldn’t resist. And yes, I am sooo much older than the target market but I have to admit I really enjoyed it. There were a few things that didn’t feel quite right, imaginary Josh (I thought that was creepy) and I mistook the older sister for the mother (I haven’t read the books) but it’s cute and funny and the casting of Lara Jean and Peter is absolutely perfect.
Music
Okay so something you may not know about me, I have very eclectic (and kind of terrible) taste in music but I do enjoy listening to it and have a constantly changing playlist made up of whatever songs I’ve come across on TV, on the radio or on the soundtrack to whatever movie I’ve been watching. The playlist below has some of the songs I’ve either added to my playlists in August or that I’ve been listening to a lot. Be warned, I have been watching a lot of superhero movies so it may have influenced a couple of the tracks ๐
Food
Satay Chicken Noodles
Okay this is obviously not a picture of Satay Chicken Noodles (although it does look tasty) but I can never hold off eating long enough to take a picture myself and Yippon are the suppliers of my newest obsession so it’s kind of relevant. I discovered these delicious noodles on a work night out and I swear I’m now in Yippon almost every week ordering them. I should probably order something else occasionally but nah, I’m quite obsessive about my food and tend to eat the same things over and over until I sicken myself of it, and they’re just too damn tasty.
So that’s some of the non book stuff I’ve been enjoying in August. Have you watched any of these shows or movies? Have I scared you with my taste in music or tempted you to some noodles?
