Teaser Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme hosted by The Purple Booker. If you want to join in grab your current read, flick to a random page, select two sentences (without spoilers) and share them in a blog post or in the comments of The Purple Booker.
This week my teaser comes from Alex and Eliza by Melissa de la Cruz which I was lucky enough to receive from NetGalley. I finished this at the weekend and very much enjoyed it. I know very little of American (or even British) history and next to nothing about Alexander Hamilton so I’ve no idea how accurate any of it is but I’m a sucker for a romance which is what this really is.
My Teaser
“Pretty clothes are like the colors of a flower’s petals. They tell the bee where to land. After that, it’s what’s inside that holds his interest,” said Peggy still quoting their mother.

Their romance shaped a nation. The rest was history.
1777. Albany, New York.
As battle cries of the American Revolution echo in the distance, servants flutter about preparing for one of New York society’s biggest events: the Schuylers’ grand ball. Descended from two of the oldest and most distinguished bloodlines in New York, the Schuylers are proud to be one of their fledgling country’s founding families, and even prouder still of their three daughters—Angelica, with her razor-sharp wit; Peggy, with her dazzling looks; and Eliza, whose beauty and charm rival that of both her sisters, though she’d rather be aiding the colonists’ cause than dressing up for some silly ball.
Still, she can barely contain her excitement when she hears of the arrival of one Alexander Hamilton, a mysterious, rakish young colonel and General George Washington’s right-hand man. Though Alex has arrived as the bearer of bad news for the Schuylers, he can’t believe his luck—as an orphan, and a bastard one at that—to be in such esteemed company. And when Alex and Eliza meet that fateful night, so begins an epic love story that would forever change the course of American history.
Such a sweet excerpt. I’m liking the writing already:)

Everyone seems to either love it or get frustrated it’s not the same as the musical. I hope you enjoy if you manage to read it.

It’s kind of like Pride and Prejudice during the American Revolution. I kind of enjoyed it but I had no idea what if any was true 🙂

This one sounds interesting – I’m guessing they are based on real characters? I hope you are enjoying it. My TT this week is a fantasy adventure I’m just starting – https://sjhigbee.wordpress.com/2017/09/05/teaser-tuesday-5th-september-2017/

They are although I know literally nothing about them. I’d probably believe it if they told me they were responsible for colonizing Mars

Love the teaser. Wondering how much is true to history. My Teaser is from Love, Sasquatch, and Other Imaginary Things.

I don’t think much is known about their courtship so I suspect it’s mostly fictional. It does wander fairly close to Pride and Prejudice.
