Miracle On 5th Avenue by Sarah Morgan
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
It’s Christmas!!!
OK it’s not yet (please don’t hate me) but having read Sarah Morgan’s latest Christmas themed book, Miracle on 5th Avenue it’s definitely put me in the festive spirit.
It’s a light and funny, opposites attract romance that left me with a huge smile on my face and an overwhelming desire to book a flight to New York. The main characters are very likeable and the chemistry between them is electric. Ms Morgan definitely knows how to write the perfect holiday read.
Synopsis (from GoodReads)
Sometimes love needs a Christmas Miracle…
Hopeless romantic Eva Jordan loves everything about Christmas. She might be spending the holidays alone this year, but when she’s given an opportunity to housesit a spectacular penthouse on Fifth Avenue, she leaps at the chance. What better place to celebrate than in snow-kissed Manhattan?
What she didn’t expect was to find the penthouse still occupied by its gorgeous–and mysterious–owner.
Bestselling crime writer Lucas Blade is having the nightmare before Christmas. With a deadline and the anniversary of his wife’s death looming, he’s isolated himself in his penthouse with only his grief for company. He wants no interruptions, no decorations and he certainly doesn’t appreciate being distracted by his beautiful, bubbly new housekeeper. But when the blizzard of the century leaves Eva snowbound in his apartment, Lucas starts to open up to the magic she brings…
This Christmas, is Lucas finally ready to trust that happily-ever-afters do exist?
Thoughts
I love, love, love Sarah Morgan and I especially love her Christmas books and this one could be her best yet.
I always look forward to Sarah Morgan’s winter themed stories so when I received this from NetGalley I couldn’t resist starting it immediately even though it was a warm and sunny Saturday in September. I enjoyed it so much I read the whole book in one sitting. While the plot is a little bit predictable, the writing and the characters make it a funny, sweet and addictive read and the whole thing left me with a big fat smile on my face.
I love the opposites attract thing and main characters Eva and Lucas make for a brilliant pairing. Eva is the bubbly, glass half full, hopeless romantic who sometimes lacks the brain to mouth filter and often says more than she means to. Lucas is the grumpy, brooding and cynical horror writer who believes everyone is hiding a dark secret and he has a few of his own. From their very first meeting they are electric together. I loved their bantering and teasing and it often had me laughing out loud (thankfully I was home alone).
The setting of New York is absolutely perfect and plays a such a big part of the story I almost felt like I was there (I definitely need to go soon). There were a couple of little bits that niggled at me which I won’t go into because of spoilers but they are relatively minor and easy to over look.
Definitely a book I’d recommend if you’re looking for a light and romantic Christmas read that’ll leave you with a smile.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for providing me with an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Miracle on 5th Avenue is available on the 20th October.
This sounds pretty good. I saw the book on one of your WWW posts and liked the cover and blurb enough to request it from NetGalley. Luckily, I got approved. I can’t wait to read it now especially after this review. Thanks for sharing:-)
