Teaser Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme hosted by MizB of Books and a Beat If you want to join in grab your current read, flick to a random page, select two sentences (without spoilers) and share them in a blog post or in the comments of Books and a Beat.
This week I’ve decided to take my teaser from The Mirror World of Melody Black by Gavin Extence. It normally wouldn’t be the type of book I go for but it was chosen for my book club so I was forced out of my comfort zone. It’s a story about living with a mental illness and how just the smallest thing (like finding your next door neighbours body) can cause your life to spin totally out of control.

So what, exactly, defined the line between crazy and not crazy? The more I thought about it, the more it seemed that sanity was just a matter of behaviour. Its degrees could be measured by the cleanliness of your hair, the set of your facial features, how you respond to a series of social cues.

It definitely makes for an interesting and at times uncomfortable read.
Happy reading everyone.
Hello Ali, this one looks interesting, even though challenging. Mine is a different beast, but somehow challenging too http://earthianhivemind.net/2016/05/17/teaser-tuesday-may-17/

It’s actually a lot lighter than I was expecting.

Great opening lines, and I am drawn to stories with mental illness in them. Thanks for sharing, and for visiting my blog.

I tend not to be, partly I think, because they’re not always done very well. The ones I’ve come across have tended to be OTT or have felt like jumping on a band wagon rather than genuine. I suspect I’ve just come across the wrong ones though

Interesting. Is this a mystery?

Not really. The death is natural causes but just finding the body sends the main character completely off track and her reactions are really not normal.

Sometimes it is so eye-opening to read genres that we might not pick up. This one does sound like it is quite interesting. Good luck with the book club and enjoy! 🙂

It actually made a nice change to read something a little different from my usual. Will be interesting to see what the next choice will be 🙂

It certainly sounds intriguing – I like the idea that there’s a lot of humour in there. As there is in The Nothing Girl by Jodi Taylor, which is my TT this week…

I really enjoyed this teasers! I think there`s definitely a fine line between crazy and not-crazy and it`s usually defined by social standards (unfortunately sometimes). Thanks for sharing!

This came up at book group as most of the MCs actions are ok on their own. It’s’s the combination of everything that reveals her illness. Her decline is very gradual and you can’t tell to start with.
