On a recent visit to Arran we ventured out in a cold and miserable day to visit the stone circles at Machrie Moor. There are actually a few different stone circles and ruins around the site but the trio shown are by far the most impressive.

These date back to 3500-1500BC and the tallest is 18ft. You have to wonder how or why these stones were put there but I suppose they will remain a mystery.
