The WWW Wednesday meme is hosted by Sam @ Taking on a World of Words and is a great way to do a weekly update on what you’ve been reading and what you have planned.
To take part all you have to do is answer the following three questions:
- What are you currently reading?
- What did you recently finish reading?
- What do you think you’ll read next?
Currently Reading
I seem to be mostly in a sci fi mood at the moment so started reading Skyward by Brandon Sanderson at the weekend and am absolutely loving it. So much so that I expect I’ll probably finish it today. I’ve been wracking my brains trying to figure out what it reminds me of (there’s something reassuringly familiar about the story) and I think I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s kind of Top Gun with maybe a dash of Enders Game thrown in. It’s all about a girl training to become a fighter pilot and while it has many of the usual competition/YA clichés it’s an incredibly enjoyable read and a completely immersive experience.
Recently Finished
Between a really busy week at work and being ill I haven’t had a lot of time for reading or the energy to focus on anything (staying awake has been enough of a struggle). I did however manage to finish Aurora Rising by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff. This was my first book from either of these authors and it was a really fun one. Kind of reminded me of Firefly with a ragtag group of misfits whose first mission goes a little awry. There’s loads of action, a lot of banter and a few surprises along the way. It is told from multiple pov’s which is not my fave but I will most definitely getting the next book in the series (and probably reading the authors’ other books in the meantime).
Reading Next
I’m still a little all over the place reading wise at the moment so rather than committing to anything I’m just going to list the books I’ve bought, borrowed or received in the last week.
Have you read any of the books on my list this week? Any others you’d recommend? As always please feel free to leave comments and links below.
Happy Reading ❤

Thanks I’m almost back to norm. Aurora Rising was a lot of fun, I am wondering though if I should have waited till the rest of the series is out. I now have a wait.

Thanks. I think I maybe preferred Skyward but that’s probably due to its focus on one character rather than six.

Glad you enjoyed Aurora Rising! I am still tossing up whether or not to read it – I didn’t love Illuminae but I think a lot of that was because of the format so I might enjoy a straight novel more.

I’ve still not read Illuminae so can’t compare I’m afraid. I liked it a lot, it’s the usual kind of misfit space crew fun. It was maybe a little light on feels but that was possibly just me.

I stumbled across it in the library. I started this morning and so far it’s been a bit of a mixed bag.

Wow, reading this post just reminded me that I haven’t read Skyward yet! But I have it! What am I doing with my life? xD Glad to hear that you’re enjoying it. I’ll have to make more of an effort to pick it up soon.
I really want to read Aurora Rising. One thing I know for sure is that Kaufman and Kristoff are pros at banter. I love it. I’m reading their series Illuminae Files right now (I’m on book two, Gemina) and I’d highly recommend it if you’re looking for more by them!

I got it from Netgalley months ago but kept putting it off myself. May not have been worst idea as I now need to wait till November for book 2 😕 It’s maybe a little longer than it needs to be but I loved it.
I own every book in the Illuminae files but insanely picked up Aurora Rising instead… Doh!

I’ll end up waiting until December, because I’ll buy book two for hubby for Christmas and then read it before he has a chance. Because he’s such a slow reader. xD He reads a million things at a time, a little of each lol.
From what I’ve heard of Aurora Rising … I’m not sure that decision was insane! I’ve heard it’s also a really good read, and I hope to be able to read that when I finish the Illuminae Files (only because I have to wait for my library to get it in).

Sorry to hear that you were sick! So much grossness is going around right now – it’s supposed to be Spring! Aurora Rising has been added to my TBR – I love your description of the book. Have a great week! https://silverbuttonbooks.com/2019/05/15/www-wednesday-may-15-2019/

The book you’re currently reading sounds really intriguing. I’ll have to look into it. I’ve been wanting to read more sci-fi and expand my reading horizons.

I’m absolutely loving it and I’m not a big sci fi reader either. Thankfully it’s not too techie and much more character focused.
