The WWW Wednesday meme is currently hosted by Sam @ Taking on a World of Words and is a great way to do a weekly update on what you’ve been reading and what you have planned.
To take part all you have to do is answer the following three questions:
- What are you currently reading?
- What did you recently finish reading?
- What do you think you’ll read next?
Currently Reading
I started reading Shadow of Night, the second book in the All Souls trilogy, on Monday but have to confess I’ve not made a huge amount of progress. My concentration this week has been pretty poor and it’s not really been helped by this having a little bit of a slow start and a whole host of new characters to get my head around. It is however starting to pick up pace so fingers crossed I’ll be able to focus on it.
I’m still working my way through Have You Eaten Grandma? by Giles Brandreth which is all about grammar and spelling. It’s quite a funny read and gives some useful hints and tips which hopefully will make their way into my writing (although I guarantee I’ll still misuse commas and apostrophes).
On audio I’m still making my way through Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare. It’s quite a long one (16+ hours) so I suspect it’ll be on here for a while, particularly as I’m not getting much listening time. I am however really loving it and I think it’s all down to the narrator. I will definitely be looking out for more books with him, as he makes each and every character distinct and has a knack for accents.
Recently Finished
Still stressing about the whole house move thing (it’s a week on Friday!!!!!) but I did manage to devote a bit of time to reading and finished three books, the first of which was The Twisted Tree by Rachel Burge. I requested this from NetGalley pretty much based on the cover and I’m so glad I did as I really enjoyed it. It’s a pretty creepy ghost story, with a little bit of monster in the woods and Norse mythology thrown in. Basically everything I love so it had me totally hooked. My only niggle was the ending which didn’t quite live up to expectations but for a debut novel it’s pretty good.
The second book finished this week was What If It’s Us by Becky Albertalli and Adam Silvera and OMG I loved it. From pretty much the first page I had the biggest smile on my face and the only time it slipped was when it all got a bit emotional (in a good way). I mean there was a fair chance I was going to love it, it’s a romance set in New York, but I think it’s possibly my fave since Dash and Lily’s Book of Dares (which it did kind of remind me of). It’s just so cute and sweet and funny and just awww. Albertalli and Silvera make a great writing team and I hope this is the first of many.
The third and final book finished was another romance but this time of the historical variety. The Other Miss Bridgerton was the first book by Julia Quinn I’ve read (and the third in a series – oops) but it’s unlikely to be the last. There’s kidnapping, espionage, pirates (sorry privateers) and lots of witty banter and flirting. Basically the perfect bit of escapism when you don’t want anything too serious. I more or less devoured the whole thing in a day (and yes I should have been packing) and my only complaint was that it was all over a little too quickly.
Reading Next
I think I’ll be lucky if I manage to finish my current reads, Shadow of Night will not be a quick read, but if I do I’m really not short on options for my next read. I have so many ARCs due it’s scary and I’ve also bought a few books recently which I’ve been looking forward to for ages so kinda want to read before I stumble across spoilers.
Have you read any of the books on my list this week? Any others you’d recommend? As always please feel free to leave comments and links below.
Happy Reading ❤
I haven’t started A Discovery of Witches, but with the adaptation out, I’m inclined to start it a bit sooner. So glad you enjoyed What If It’s Us! I don;t know when I’ll get to it but I do want to get to it one day. Muse of Nightmares was so lovely and I hope you enjoy it. Happy Wednesday!

The adaptation was probably the main driver for me reading it. I kept seeing the trailers but knew I had to read the book first. I may also be going to see Deborah Harkness next week so that’s been a bit of a driver to finish the series.
What If It’s Us was just wonderful. The exact book I needed. Reminded me a little of Dash and Lily’s Book of Dares (although possibly mostly due to the New York setting).
I do really want to read Muse of Nightmares as soon as possible. I have the hardback and haven’t packed it as yet so maybe it’ll be next.

Looking at all the books I need to get through right now, I’ll probably end up watching it first but who knows. Ah that’s awesome! Hope you have fun!

I still need to finish Empire of Storms! Happy reading!

I haven’t technically finished Tower of Dawn either. For some bizarre reason I have up about 3 chapters from the end. Just got a copy from the library though (I’d packed my copy) so should maybe read it first.

Oh I saw Julia Quinn. She’s one of my all-time favorite Historical Romance author but her best work is the original Bridgerton Series. Please read that Ali. It’s about 8 siblings so 8 books too. And you’re gonna love them and their stories. I still haven’t read The Other Miss Bridgerton but i’ve read the first 2. 🙂 Have a great week and goodluck in the move.

I think I’ve pretty much exhausted Tessa Dare’s books so I think I’ll be working my way through the Julia Quinn ones next. The Other Miss Bridgerton was such a fun read, I’m sure you’ll enjoy. Thanks for the recommendation I’ll see if my library has them (and if not probably just buy them 🙂 ).

Hope your library has them so you can read them soon but buying them won’t be a waste of money too. hehe. 🙂

I was going to read A Discovery of Witches but lots of people told me that it was really boring and that the second was worse so it put me off. I love Cassandra Clare’s books. Here’s my WWW – https://whisperingstories.com/www-wednesday-24th-october-2018/

It’s definitely a little on the slow side. It’s pretty detailed (possibly unnecessarily so) on the historical stuff but I quite enjoyed the first one. It is taking me longer to get into book 2 (not sure where it’s going, the romance has gone off) but I think it’s going to pick up.
I’ve been hit or miss on Cassandra Clare’s books. Loved the Mortal Instruments but wasn’t a fan of the Infernal Devices (until this one). I thought it was maybe that I preferred the contemporary setting (plus I’m not really a fan of steampunk) but I didn’t love Lady Midnight either. I don’t know, maybe it just depends on my mood.

Thanks. Yeah I know you probably shouldn’t pick books based on covers but I totally do. They are often good indicators.

I just downloaded Daisy Jones and the Six, after requesting it from NetGalley. I’m eager to read it…thanks for sharing, and here’s MY WWW POST

Yeah my NetGalley request suddenly got approved a day or two ago and I’d put it in ages ago. Really looking forward to it. Fingers crossed it lives up to expectations.

My focus this week has been horrible. I feel like I’ve barely gotten any reading done. I hate weeks like that.
I’m saving the Christmas Sisters for December and can’t wait! I love her books around the holidays. I absolutely loved Daisy Jones. It’s very different, but it worked for me. I hope you enjoy it!

Daisy Jones will be my first from that author but I’ve heard so many great things I’m quite excited. I usually can’t wait for a Sarah Morgan Christmas book but I haven’t been in the mood. Hopefully once everything settles down I’ll get to it. It’s rubbish when you can’t focus on anything.

I’ve sneakily read the first few pages already despite being in the middle of another. I’m really looking forward to it. Will be my first from that author.

I’ve only read one of her books, but I really liked it.

Glad to hear that you enjoyed “What If It’s Us”! I will have to try to get that from my library. Hope the house moving goes well. As someone who has moved more than 20 times in my life, I feel your stress. How many boxes of books are you going to have? The positive thing about moving, is that it does force you to purge things that you don’t need. I’m sure audiobooks will be your friend over the next few days. Good luck! Here is my WWW post if you have time: https://greatmorrisonmigration.wordpress.com/2018/10/24/www-wednesdays-october-24-2018/

What If It’s Us was great. Think it’s going on my books that make me happy pile.
Thanks. More than 20 times!!! I don’t plan on doing this again any time soon. Sale and purchase going through on same day and nothing signed yet. Sooo many boxes of books. I gave about 30 books away but still have 6 or 7 boxes and still keep finding more in random places. I’ve tried to be ruthless but I own a lot I haven’t read and quite a few signed or collector editions.

You shouldn’t have to be ruthless with your books. You can be ruthless with other stuff. 😉

So glad to see that you enjoyed The Twisted Tree! And yeah, the beginning of Shadow of Night is a little slow but once they go back in time, things really start to pick up! I think it’s my favorite book in the trilogy.

That’s great to hear. It is picking up, I’m just finding it difficult to focus so keep forgetting who everyone is.
Twisted Tree was great. Ending was a little off but loved the rest.

Yeah, I have that issue a lot too. I should probably start writing characters names down lol.

I loved the Discovery of Witches trilogy but that second book is absolutely the most difficult to get going on. Don’t give up! While I have a few (tiny) issues with the books they are some of my favorites and most recommended. Good luck with the move! http://silverbuttonbooks.com/2018/10/24/www-wednesday-october-24-2018

It’s probably not helped by my mind being elsewhere. I have however made it to Sept-Tours and I like Phillipe. I’m just not sure I like Matthew in this one (although am assuming that’s deliberate). Thanks, I don’t know how people do this. I have so much stuff.

Matthew was someone I struggled with occasionally through the stories!
Moving my books alone costs me a lifetime of energy. I hope it is smooth sailing for you!

I really need to give the All Souls Trilogy another go… I tried starting the first book last year, but couldn’t get into it. I’ve heard the first part is kind of slow right? I feel kind of bad for abandoning it. xD Have a wonderful week!
