For the first time ever I’ve decided to make an attempt at planning my reading so I’m participating in the second annual Summer TBR Wipeout hosted by Candid Cover. The challenge started on the 1st July and runs until the 13th August and I’m hoping will motivate me to finally make a dent in my ever increasing TBR.
I posted an introductory post at the start of the month and today it’s time for my first progress update. So how have I done…..
Finished
I’m actually pretty impressed with my progress and of the original list of 21 I’ve finished 5. Even more impressively, other than one book, which I couldn’t resist, every single book finished was on my plan.
- The Rome Affair by Karen Swan (NetGalley) – ♥♥♥♥½ – Loved this even more than I expected to. Full review here.
- Daughter of the Burning City by Amanda Foody (NetGalley) – ♥♥♥♥ – Enjoyed this but didn’t love quite as much as I hoped I would. Review up tomorrow (probably).
- Don’t Close Your Eyes by Holly Seddon (Readers First) – ♥♥♥♥ – Very addictive psychological thriller about twins. Full review here.
- Close Enough to Touch by Colleen Oakley (Readers First) – ♥♥♥♥ – Quirky and sweet story about a woman who is allergic to other people. I haven’t posted a review but you can read my Goodreads review here.
- Roar by Cora Carmack (Fairyloot) – ♥♥♥ – An easy and enjoyable read but while I loved the storm magic there were just too many tropes to make it a stand out.
Removed from TBR
To be perfectly honest I didn’t have any real intention of reading Waiting for Columbus by Thomas Trofimuk. The only reason it was on my list was because it was this month’s real life book club book. The reviews I saw for it were not great, my library didn’t have it and there are so many other books I want to read that I didn’t want to spend any time on it.
Still to Read
Despite my progress so far there are still quite a few books on my list and I’ve been a bit bad and requested some more from NetGalley (and maybe bought quite a few too). My Netgalley shelf is a little out of control so I’m prioritizing books that are due to be published soon. I also have a few author events in August and I’d really like to be read up before them so I’m going to try and stick to the order below:

So that’s 6 down and 15 to go and only 4 weeks left….eek!!

A Bookish Life 
Such great progress! I probably should have joined this challenge as well haha. Of the ones still to read I can highly recommend Now I Rise and This Savage Song! I wasn’t a fan of We Were Liars, but that book can go both ways for you… And I can’t wait to get a copy of The Scandal (it’s also called Beartown right?), The Boy On The Bridge and Our Dark Duet. 😀 I hope you will enjoy these!

It’s definitely encouraging me to have some kind of reading plan rather than my usual random approach to picking books 🙂
Unfortunately I don’t have a good excuse to move Now I Rise to the top of my list despite really wanting to. Maybe once I knock off the books due by the end of the month.
Yep The Scandal and Beartown are one and the same. I don’t really understand this thing about changing book titles for different markets, makes me wonder what else they change and it was only the authors name that clued me in to this being the book everyone was raving over.

I hope you will be able to get to Now I Rise soon! I do get the why since I’ve been trying to get through most of my ARCs before the end of the month so I can dedicate August to my other books…
And I thought I had seen the two different names mentioned before! I don’t understand why they would have made this drastic change to a title since it can get confusing… Fingers crossed this was the only change though because touching Backman’s prose would be a crime. 😉

That’s so amazing that you have almost reached the half-way point in your TBR goal! The Rome Affair sounds really interesting and I am going to have to check it out since you loved it so much. I hope that you enjoy the books that you have queued up for the next part of the challenge! 🙂

I’d say I’m more a third of the way through but thank you and thanks for hosting. It’s definitely making me focus.
I think of all of the reads so far from my list The Rome Affair has been my favourite but it’s actually the book that’s not on my list, Big Sexy Love by Kirsty Greenwood, that has been the highlight of the last two weeks. Contrary to what you would think from the title it’s a really funny and sweet rom com. Absolutely brilliant and I’m going to be campaigning till everyone in the world has read it 🙂

Looks like you’re doing great so far! I have a couple of these on my overall TBR to get to *someday*. This Savage Song is one I keep meaning to get to, it seems like everyone loves it!

So far so good! One day I would like to go to the first books on my Goodreads “To Read” shelf and finally bump them off. Some books on my TBR pile have been there for years.
