I’m between books at the moment so it seems like a good excuse to post a teaser from The Girl with all the Gifts by M.R. Carey which I read at the weekend. It’s a book that’s been on my want to read list for a while and I have to say it was worth the wait. I should be posting a review with 5 big fat stars soon but in the meantime here’s my teaser.

And he’s always assumed that by steering into the middle of the channel, he was going to manage not to get wrecked. Now he knows you can get wrecked in clear waters too, and he’s thinking oh please, don’t let me die. I haven’t even lived yet, so it’s not fair to let me die.

Synopsis (from GoodReads)
Melanie is a very special girl. Dr. Caldwell calls her “our little genius.”
Every morning, Melanie waits in her cell to be collected for class. When they come for her, Sergeant Parks keeps his gun pointing at her while two of his people strap her into the wheelchair. She thinks they don’t like her. She jokes that she won’t bite, but they don’t laugh.
Melanie loves school. She loves learning about spelling and sums and the world outside the classroom and the children’s cells. She tells her favorite teacher all the things she’ll do when she grows up. Melanie doesn’t know why this makes Miss Justineau look sad.
Happy reading everyone.
There’s a movie coming-out and it made me much much more excited about the book. Will definitely be buying it soon!

Just watched the trailer and not too sure about the casting. Not what I imagined at all.

Oh wow! This sounds like it is a gut-wrenching book! I hope that the girl doesn’t suffer the fate that is implied here. I am so glad that you have enjoyed this one. I will definitely have to check it out!

You definitely should although I should warn that it is a little gruesome at times and not for the squeamish π

This is one of my all-time favourite reads:). I’m very much hoping that the film doesn’t stuff up the ending and is true to the book, which is a real shocker. I hope you enjoy this one as much as I did. And here is another apocalpytic offering – though a bit more tongue in cheek… https://sjhigbee.wordpress.com/2016/06/28/teaser-tuesday-28th-june-2016/

I hadn’t realised there was a film coming out till today. Watched the trailer earlier and not convinced by the casting of Melanie. I was kind of picturing a cute long haired blonde girly girl for some reason.
