The WWW Wednesday meme is currently hosted by Sam @ Taking on a World of Words and is a great way to do a weekly update on what you’ve been reading and what you have planned.
To take part all you have to do is answer the following three questions:
- What are you currently reading?
- What did you recently finish reading?
- What do you think you’ll read next?
Currently Reading
Ummm….
Yeah, things seem to have gotten a little out of control on the reading front and I’m currently juggling these four books.
- I started The Last Family in England by Matt Haig first but given it begins with the dog Prince being taken to the vet to be put down I’m a little bit scared to read it (I think it might break me) so progress has been slow.
- Ash Princess I’m finding difficult to get into I think because there’s a lot of info dumping at the start and it’s annoying me. Hopefully once it gets going and the world building is out of the way it’ll get better.
- There’s a buddy read of The Count of Monte Cristo starting in one of the groups on GoodReads so it seemed like a good opportunity to read this chunkster. I have a physical copy and it’s around 1300 pages so I think I’m gonna be reading this for a while.
- I’ve been wanting to read Stalking Jack the Ripper for a while so was very happy when my hold came in for the audio on Overdrive. I only started listening to it at the weekend so I’m around 2 hours in but so far so good.
Recently Finished
I eased off on my reading last week as I had a new team reading challenge starting, a sick cat and a ton of reviews to actually write up so I only finished two books both of which were really quick historical romances by Tessa Dare, Say Yes to the Marquess and Whenย A Scot Ties the Knot. They’re probably not going to win any prizes for great literature but they’re funny, light and just really easy. Perfect for a bit of escapism.
Reading Next
I think if I manage to make some progress with my current reads I’ll be doing well but should I finish any I think one of these will be up next.
Have you read any of the books on my list this week? Any others you’d recommend? As always please feel free to leave comments and links below.
Happy Reading โค
Oh my goodness you do have a busy reading week – enjoy!

I’ve read the Duchess Deal. It was actually my first Tessa Dare and I absolutely loved it. It’s what started me on her books and is why I’m now working my way through everything she’s written ๐

I canโt wait to read Cross Her Heart! Iโll keep an eye out for your review!

You’re brave taking on a 1,300 page book I think, even as a buddy read, so good luck with that. I find that, with only a few exceptions, I can’t face huge books any more.

You have a nice mix of books. I have been eyeing Cross Her Heart, since I enjoyed Behind Her Eyes by this author.

I’ve been wanting to read Stalking Jack the Ripper for awhile. Good idea to request it from the library for audio! I think I will do just that.

The Count of Monte Cristo is one of my all time favorite books. I really hope you enjoy it as much as I did! I plan to read Ace of Shades before the end of the month. It’s one of my most anticipated releases this year so I can’t wait to pick it up!

Loads of people seem to say that about Count of Monte Cristo. I’m getting increasingly worried I’ll be the odd bod who doesn’t like it ๐
Also heard lots of great things about Ace of Shades so I’m looking forward to it.

Haha nah, thereโs plenty of people who didnโt enjoy it. Iโd say itโs like War and Peace with you either love them or hate them.

War and Peace is one I’ve no intention of ever attempting.

Yeah, it took me almost 2 months to read it when I was a freshman in high school. Great book though!

The Count of Monte Cristo is really intimidating to look at, but it’s actually a quick read for its size. It’s also one of my favorites!
I agree with Ash Princess – it took some time to get into, but it does get better.

That’s good to hear. I tend to avoid big books but quite a few people have told me this is a favourite.

Reading Ace of Shades right now!! If youโre read the authorโs debut, Daughter of the Burning City, and liked how Amanda builds her worlds, then I think youโll enjoy Ace of Shades even more. Iโm soo invested in it right now, and itโs taking me so much control not to go and read the last quarter of the book and leave all of my to-do undone.
Iโm trying to get an ARC of Smoke in the Sun, but if not, Iโll get a copy since it comes out soon enough โ looking forward to getting back to the Japanese feudal era.

I liked Daughter of the Burning City but didn’t love it. I thought there was a little too much going on for a standalone. I’m hoping with this being a series it won’t feel as packed and rushed.
I’m looking forward to Smoke in the Sun. I have a few more imminent releases I need to get to first but I’m finding it hard to resist. Hopefully you’ll get your hands on an ARC soon.

I adore the Count! I read a “good parts” version when I was a kid and then the unabridged version as an adult. I loved both. I hope ye do too!

I really enjoy Stalking Jack the Ripper, although I didn’t listen to the audiobook so I can’t say anything about that. It is a wonderful historical/murder mystery. I hope you enjoy it!

I’m really enjoying it and the narration is great. If I had one criticism it’s that it reminds me a little too much of Sherlock Holmes. At times it almost feels like scenes and events have been taken from it. It may just be that I’ve been reading the Holmes books recently though.

I’ve never read any of the Sherlock Holmes books which would be why I wouldn’t be able to make that assumption.

Good luck juggling those 4 books!
I’ve read a couple of Matt Haig’s books and really enjoy his writing – each has been very different and I can imagine The Last Family being so too!

This is my first Matt Haig and I am liking the writing. I’m just a little worried about the story as I think it’s gonna upset me. Have you read the Dead Fathers Club? I got a copy of that from NetGalley too.
