The WWW Wednesday meme is currently hosted by Sam @ Taking on a World of Words and is a great way to do a weekly update on what you’ve been reading and what you have planned.
To take part all you have to do is answer the following three questions:
- What are you currently reading?
- What did you recently finish reading?
- What do you think you’ll read next?
Currently Reading
Despite literally just posting my Spring TBR a few days ago I’ve wandered off and picked up The Ghost of Me and You by Kelly Oram which was most definitely not on it. It is however a book I’ve been wanting to read for quite a while and it just seemed a good fit for right now. It’s about a a boy who returns as a ghost to help the girl he loved and the boy who was his best friend to move on. I do really love Oram’s writing, it always gets to me and yep I have shed a few tears already (including on a very busy train).
I have to confess I haven’t made much progress with The Queens of Innis Lear by Tessa Gratton. While I think I do like the writing (it’s very lyrical), I’m finding it incredibly slow going. I spent quite a few hours reading it and only managed to get to 10%, with my kindle telling me there are still 14+ hours remaining. I will go back to it (I think) but I’m really not in the right mood just now.
On audio, I’ve made more progress with The Sweetest Burn, the second in the Broken Destiny series by Jeaniene Frost. I only have a couple of hours left so should finish it today or tomorrow. It’s not been my favorite book by Frost.
Recently Finished
The first book finished this week, Deadly Secrets by Robert Bryndza, is probably the main reason why I haven’t made much progress with The Queens of Innis Lear. I’m afraid as soon as my NetGalley request for this, the latest in the DCI Erika Foster series, was approved I abandoned everything and started reading it immediately. This is just such a great series and completely addictive reading. It did suffer a bit from me reading straight after The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle (which is much more complex and twisty) but I think this is one of my fave books in the series. I just wish they would spend a little longer on editing and proofreading, the little continuity errors drive me nuts.
Second book finished was Sherlock Holmes story, The Sign of Four by Arthur Conan Doyle. Possibly not my fave (it’s kinda racist, Holmes takes a lot of cocaine and Watson has the biggest insta love story I’ve come across) but it’s still great to read the original.
The last book read was The Exact Opposite of Okay by Laura Steven which I also received from NetGalley. I have to admit this was a second attempt at this book as the first time I started it I gave up after a couple of chapters. The story is told in the form of a series of blog posts by MC Izzy and I found her a bit extra. She’s constantly cracking jokes, using innuendo and is just so confident and extroverted that I found it difficult to connect (she’s basically the exact opposite of me). It is however an important book and deals with so many issues in a new way that I do think it’s worth reading. Also Izzy kind of grew on me. I’m hoping to get a full review up this week.
Reading Next
Next up I think are two books I got from the library, Eliza and her Monsters (which is due back in three days) and Call Me By Your Name (which will be my next audio). I also want to pick up my next couple of galley’s Skin Deep and Sam and Ilsa’s Last Hurrah.
Have you read any of the books on my list this week? Any others you’d recommend? As always please feel free to leave comments and links below.
Happy Reading ❤
I’m reading Skin Deep at the moment so good to see it on your read next list!

It’s likely to be next up. I’d put it off a little as been reading too many thrillers but I have read the first few pages and it sounds so good. How are you finding it?

I recently started The Exact Opposite of Okay but I have yet to pick it up again – was hit by a huge reading slump after finishing Obsidio, haha. But I really have to read it since I’m meeting the author in April and I can hardly show up not having read her book?!
I’ve heard it tackles some major issues though so having that confirmed once again is a good thing. Motivated me to start reading again. 🙂

It’s definitely good in terms of tackling some really big issues and takes a very different approach. I didn’t find the MC that likeable in the beginning but she does grow on you. I hope you enjoy once you make it out of the slump.
I have still to read Illuminae. I keep putting it off for some reason.

I recently read Call Me By Your Name and found it a little too self-absorbed but I’m looking forward to seeing the film in case I find that better.

I picked this up mostly because of the hype around the film. Hopefully it’ll work better as an audio.

I like the idea of using the perspective of a ghost to frame a story about life and loss. A creative way of using something otherwise spooky.
Here’s my WWW post 🙂

It’s definitely more funny and sad than spooky. I love Kelly Oram, she always writes books that get to me.

Hi there!
Lovely to meet you, Ali, I’m meeting so many new book bloggers with this meme! Great blog, I followed. 😉
I’ve got The Queen of Innis Lear to read too. I was really looking forward to it, but keep putting it off lol It’s chunky!

Great to meet you too. WWW Wednesday is a great way to meet so many book bloggers.
I have really struggled to get into Queen of Innis Lear. I had no idea it was based on King Lear and probably wouldn’t have requested if I’d known. I don’t know the story at all so I’m missing all of the little references and links. It is also taking forever to read.
Hopefully you’ll fare better when you pick it up. It does get some great reviews.

I haven’t seen the movie yet but I really want to. I usually prefer reading it first so I can decide for myself what the characters are like rather than the actors portrayal.

Books not on your TBR list are always more appealing. I have been picking up so many books that aren’t on my list recently. I’m glad you gave The Exact Opposite of Okay another chance, it’s on my TBR list and it’s great to hear that it’s worth the read.

I swear as soon as I put a book on my TBR I no longer want to read it 😂
I really wasn’t in the right mood first time I tried to read Exact Opposite. The MC is pretty full on and not the easiest voice to take to but it’s worth sticking with.

I want to see that movie so badly but feel like I should really read (or listen to) the book first. The book seems to get some slightly more mixed reviews than the movie so fingers crossed it doesn’t put me off.

I ended up putting it down and picking something else up which is never a good sign. I’m trying to talk myself into going back to it.
LikeLiked by 1 person
Yeah thats not a good sign. Maybe do bits and pieces and reward yourself with the other book? Should never need to reward yourself becasue you read something, but if you really want to finish it for the sake if finishing, you might have to get creative. I think it has a interesting ending, if that helps.
LikeLiked by 1 person
Hmm. I think I just found it frustrating that I read for like 3 hours and was only 10% through. Rewards are a good idea. I may try that.
LikeLiked by 1 person
haha! 3 hour and only 10%? you must be a fast reader, I think it took me 3 days to pass the first 10% mark. LOL I was getting very frustrated about the slowness. If I didnt like some of the characters I wouldnt have finished. but yeah try the rewards thing if you feel you need to finish.
