The theme for this weeks Top Ten Tuesday over at The Broke and the Bookish is top ten books on your Winter TBR which is perfect for me as I was planning on writing a winter TBR post. I’m not very good at sticking to a plan for my reading but I do find it helps to motivate me if I actually note them down. I can’t guarantee I’m going to read all of these but they are the ones I hope to get to.
ARC’s
I’ve been making great progress on my ARC’s over the past few weeks and finally managed to get my NetGalley ratio over 80%. Assuming I don’t go too nuts with the request button I only really have the following books due.
- Everless by Sara Holland (YA Fantasy) – There seems to be quite a lot of hype around this which is making me kinda nervous about it but so far all of the reviews look positive so I am looking forward to it. I do love the idea of time as a currency.
- Everything is Lies by Helen Callaghan (Thriller) – I read and loved the authors debut novel Dear Amy (review) so I jumped at the chance to get a copy of her new one. This one is about a woman who finds her parents dead in an apparent murder suicide. She doesn’t believe it so starts digging into the past.
- Cruel Prince by Holly Black (YA Fantasy – This will be my first Holly Black book but I can’t wait to read it. It’s been far too long since I’ve had fey in my life.
- Furyborn by Claire Legrand (Another YA Fantasy) – Hmm there seems to be a lot of YA fantasy on this list, oh well. This is a book I was swithering over requesting on NetGalley and ended up getting a copy in a book subscription box.
Library Books
Because I clearly don’t have enough books to read I’ve been hitting up the library yet again to get some more.
- The Muse by Jessie Burton (Historical) – This is my next book club read but is one I’ve been curious about for a while. I don’t read a lot of historical fiction but there’s something very tempting about that cover
- Turtles All the Way Down by John Green (YA Contemporary) – I know I swore after reading Looking for Alaska that I was never ever reading another book by Green but it seems to be everywhere so I feel like I have to read it. We’ll see how it goes and whether my Green ban is reinstated or ditched.
- Forgive me, Leonard Peacock by Matthew Quick (YA Contemporary) – I read another Matthew Quick book a year ago (which I totally can’t remember the name of) and found it weird but brilliant so I’ve been keeping my eye out for another book by him.
- The Silent Companions by Laura Purcell (Gothic Horror) – I spied this at the library and couldn’t resist picking it up. I like a good spooky ghost story so I have high hopes.
Owned
I have so many books, physical and ebooks, that I just never seem to get round to reading that I’m hoping now my ARCs are semi under control I can finally get to. These are probably more possibles than definites as it will depend what I’m in the mood for.
- They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera (YA Contemporary) – I keep buying Silvera books but never seem to get around to reading them. This is my latest purchase and probably the one I’m most excited about.
- It only Happens in the Movies by Holly Bourne (YA Contemporary) – I’ve literally just finished an ARC of How Do You Like Me Now? and absolutely loved it (it’s rare to come across a book which is just so real) so I really want to read another book by Bourne and this one is sitting on my kindle waiting for me.
- When It’s Real by Erin Watt (NA Romance) – With all of these serious books I think I’m going to need a bit of romance so would really like to pick up this one.
- The Crown’s Game by Evelyn Skye (YA Fantasy) – I have started this book three times and haven’t made it past chapter 2 yet. Nothing against the book, it’s just never been the right time. It does seem like it’ll be a good one for the Christmas holidays so maybe I’ll go on a series binge, fueled by mince pies and chocolate.
So that’s my TBR for the next couple of months. I would also really like to sneak in a classic or two, maybe a re read of Jane Eyre and my first attempt at Great Expectations or another Dickens, but we’ll see. I’m not generally very good at sticking to a reading plan.
Do you have a list of books you’re hoping to read over the winter period? Can you stick to a reading plan or are you more of a mood reader? Have you read any of the books on my list? Any I should race to read or avoid like the plague?
Feel free to leave comments below and links to your own top ten’s.
The muse has been sat on my bookshelf for way too long, must get to it soon.

Not my usual type of read but I had been tempted by the cover. So far all reports from the other book club members have been favourable.

I loved Turtles, which was my first ever John Green-book. After that I read Looking for Alaska which ended up being a bit of a disappointment. So I hope you do like Turtles after all! Especially since you’re giving his work another chance. 🙂
The Cruel Prince is on my eARC-TBR as well. I’ve read some Holly Black in the past so I’m definitely looking forward to this one.
As for They Both Die At The End: Tears all the way. I swore I wouldn’t cry but ended up crying like a baby, haha.
Happy reading!

Looking for Alaska is actually the book that put me off Green. I really didn’t like it. I’m very happy to hear Turtles is better.
I suppose the title for They Both Die should be a clue but no doubt I’ll do exactly the same as you and end up bawling my eyes out.

I can see why. I recently bought The Fault in Our Stars so I’m hoping I’ll end up liking that one as well.
I know right?! I went into it with “You know how it’s going to end. So you will. not. cry.” :’)

I watched the film of The Fault in our Stars and unfortunately it didn’t inspire me to read the book but will be interested to hear how you get on.
As for crying through books I literally cry at everything and anything something which is very embarrassing when reading on the train. May keep They Both Die for when I’m home alone.

I saw the movie as well but it’s ages ago. I do remember pretty clearly that I don’t like the female lead actress. But that’s something from when I saw her acting in another series.
Definitely a book you’ll want to read when you’re alone! The first half can be read outside but after that.. I’d say: haul up in your room and hide, haha.

Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock is so good. I am surprised that so few people have read this book. This is defiantly a book that deserves more hype.

Someone else said that too. I’ve only read one other book by Quick and it was brilliant so I definitely have high hopes.

There’s a lot of new-to-me books on your list! I have heard When It’s Real is really good – I have a copy, I just haven’t made time to try it. Enjoy!

I’ve read a couple of Watts other books and really liked them so have high hopes. If I do ever manage to read it.

Great List Ali… But let me just say how gorgeous the covers of these books, Im a cover whore and proud of it so I can’t help but admire their coves first before reading your entire post. 🙂 🙂

I’m terrible for picking books based on their covers. If it’s a pretty cover I want to read it. Doesn’t necessarily matter what it’s about 😂

While I buy a book with pretty covers and then pile them on my shelf, most of them still unread. 🙂

Gah, a lot of books here I also want to read! I’ve been eyeing both The Cruel Prince and When It’s Real and I’m hoping I can somehow squeeze them in my schedule! It’s been a while since I enjoyed reading a good book. (Blame my tight work schedule!!)

I’m going to be having similar issues I think but I’m counting on the Christmas break to let me get some reading in. The weather is usually awful and shops/cinemas too busy so will be binging on chocolate and reading.

Yes, there’s the Christmas break, thank God! I think I’ll probably lock myself inside my room just to be able to finish everything on my tbr before the year ends.
Also, chocolates and reading do sound good together! 😀

Awesome tbr! I really want to read Cruel Prince, so I look forward to your review on that 😀 And Silent Companions- I want to read that too! I also swore off John Green after looking for Alaska- to be honest, I feel like I’ve given him a two-book shot, so I’m not gonna bother with Turtles- there are a lot of books on the subject so I’m not gonna waste my time with an author I’m not keen on- that said, I’m still interested to hear your thoughts on it, especially cos you also chose not to read his books anymore and I’ll be curious if it changes your mind. I’ve never read a Silvera book either- so I’d be interested to hear what you think of they both die in the end- I love the concept!

This will be my second Green book so if this doesn’t work for me it’ll be the last and I absolutely will not get pulled in by any more of the hype 😉
I keep bloomin well buying Silvera books and never read any of them. And he’s not the only author I’ve done that with. I’m going to have to apply a ban, no buying more than one book by an author I’ve never read.

Ah fair enough! 😉 I hope it does then- it’s supposed to be a pretty good one 😉
haha that’s so funny!! I think I’ve done that before for series, but never with standalones, cos I like to see what I think about the author first. But I really hope you like him then!

when are you reading – Everless?

Not sure, hopefully sometime over the next couple of weeks. I’m not great at planning so while I have a list the order tends to be somewhat random. Is it on your list too?

Just curious what you will think about it. Will see about buying after your review 😀
