I’m a little bit late to the party but at long last I’ve decided to give the Litsy app a try. It’s described as a mix between GoodReads and Instagram and that’s probably fairly accurate. I have to admit to being a bit of a doubter, I absolutely love GoodReads and couldn’t see this being better, However, they actually complement each other really well if you’re as book obsessed as I am.
So what is Litsy?
Similar to GoodReads, Litsy is a massive book database. When you post to the app you have to link to a specific book, there are no general status updates. Each post can take a number of different forms — a blurb (basically any short comment), a quote or a review. The best thing about it though is that you can also include an image. This could be a photo of your copy of the book, your favorite reading spot or my most common picture, a page with a quote highlighted.
When you browse you can either follow different accounts and see updates from other users linked to specific books or you can look for a specific book and when you pull it up you’ll see all of the reviews, blurbs, quotes and pictures attached to it by every user. Posts are limited to 300 characters, so even reviews are pretty concise and spoilers can be hidden making it a fairly quick thing to decide whether you want to read it or not.
My thoughts on it so far
So far I’ve been using it for around a month and have been really liking it, but it’s not without it’s flaws. I love being able to link my pictures (poor as they are) to a specific title. I also like that posts are limited to those 300 characters. It forces me to be concise in my reviews (which saves a lot of time).
I have had the occasional problem with the app (it refuses to let me upload pictures every so often) however my main issue is that I don’t feel like I’m getting the most out of it by connecting with other users. Unlike GoodReads it’s difficult to find groups to join or users with similar tastes to follow and that’s where this post comes in.
Do you use Litsy?
Are you a Litsy user or have you thought about trying it? Do you have any hints or tips for getting the most out of it? If so I’d love your advice so please leave comments below or, if you’re interested in connecting your Litsy user name and I’ll follow you. Alternatively you can find me under Ali-Reads on Litsy 🙂
Thanks
Ali xx
I’ve tried Litsy twice and it never worked out for me. I don’t know why. I think I just get bored of it, and you’re right, it’s really hard to find users and become social like on other sites.

I’m persevering at the moment in hopes I’ll be able to get more from the social side. I do like being able to do short reviews and add pictures. I think the Litfluence thing has also motivated me. There’s something addictive about seeing it increase after you post a review and get some likes.

Haha, exactly! It reminds me of this other app called Books Amino that I love. You can put up reviews, do tags, add your favorites, and I’ve met a lot of great people through the app. It has the same sort of tracker for reputation the more you post and interact with others. 😄

I can’t resist! XD I’m not a huge social media person, so it’s really nice to have a platform where I can share my blog posts and meet other bloggers as well (since I’ve found some other small blogs there)!

I’m on Litsy – I’m Luvtoread and I just followed you 🙂 I don’t use Litsy all that much however. I do post short ARC reviews on it, but I find the 300 character reviews really difficult to write! So I don’t really post all the often or see what others post. Every so often I poke around and see what others post and try to interact. Maybe I’ll try to do more with the app this year, as I do like it!

Fab thanks for following. I kind of like the short reviews. I have a tendency to ramble and repeat the plot so it forces me to be concise 🙂 I use the blog or GoodReads for my rambles.

I don’t have a smartphone, so apps aren’t really my thing, but I’ve been watching Litsy with interesting. It’s so hard to know which sites/apps will take off, since Goodreads seems to have the bulk of the consumers.

I probably do prefer GoodReads to Litsy as it has a lot more features (plus you can use from a pc) but I do love being able to link pictures to books or post a quote directly to the book’s page. It is still a baby compared to GoodReads but I think it’ll grow 🙂
