Teaser Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme hosted by MizB of Books and a Beat If you want to join in grab your current read, flick to a random page, select two sentences (without spoilers) and share them in a blog post or in the comments of Books and a Beat.
This week my teaser comes from The Trespasser by Tana French. It’s the sixth book in the Dublin Murder Squad series but can probably be read as a standalone as there isn’t much overlap with previous stories. I’m at around the 60% mark and am really enjoying it. I am a big fan of Tana French but think this may be one of her best yet.
My Teaser
What-if-maybe crap is for weak people. It belongs to the ones who don’t have the strength to make actual situations go their way, so they have to hide away in daydreams where they can play at controlling what comes next.

Being on the Murder squad is nothing like Detective Antoinette Conway dreamed it would be. Her partner, Stephen Moran, is the only person who seems glad she’s there. The rest of her working life is a stream of thankless cases, vicious pranks, and harassment. Antoinette is savagely tough, but she’s getting close to the breaking point.
Their new case looks like yet another by-the-numbers lovers’ quarrel gone bad. Aislinn Murray is blond, pretty, groomed to a shine, and dead in her catalogue-perfect living room, next to a table set for a romantic dinner. There’s nothing unusual about her—except that Antoinette’s seen her somewhere before.
And that her death won’t stay in its neat by-numbers box. Other detectives are trying to push Antoinette and Steve into arresting Aislinn’s boyfriend, fast. There’s a shadowy figure at the end of Antoinette’s road. Aislinn’s friend is hinting that she knew Aislinn was in danger. And everything they find out about Aislinn takes her further from the glossy, passive doll she seemed to be.
Antoinette knows the harassment has turned her paranoid, but she can’t tell just how far gone she is. Is this case another step in the campaign to force her off the squad, or are there darker currents flowing beneath its polished surface?
Happy reading everyone.

Thank you for this TT, along with your thoughts about it. I love the sound of this one – she’s definitely got her back against the wall… This is my wild west fantasy, which has another rather hapless protagonist searching for a murderer, though he’s far more clueless… https://sjhigbee.wordpress.com/2016/11/22/teaser-tuesday-22nd-november-2016/

She’s a brilliant character and I’m loving this book. I literally just finished a chapter on the train this morning that had me laughing out loud (little bit embarrassing).

Great teaser! I almost chose this book for my BOTM Club choice but ended up going with Every Man A Menace. I may have to borrow this one from the library though!

In the unlikely event that I ever get to pick a book for book club I’d actually thought about Tana French too. Definitely lots of interesting discussion points. It is also definitely worth getting from the library.
