This week I’m very excited to have a teaser from Heartless by Marissa Meyer. This is a book I’ve been looking forward to since first hearing of it and I was so excited to get an ARC from NetGalley. It’s a prequel to Alice in Wonderland and tells the story of the Queen of Hearts. I’ve more or less finished and I have loved each and every moment.
Anyway the teaser…
My Teaser
‘Tisn’t rude to rebuke an arbitrary greeting, a nonsense question upon first meeting. To be all right implies an impossible phase. We hope for mostly right on the best of our days.’
~ location 581, Heartless by Marissa Meyer
Blurb
Long before she was the terror of Wonderland — the infamous Queen of Hearts — she was just a girl who wanted to fall in love.
Catherine may be one of the most desired girls in Wonderland, and a favorite of the yet-unmarried King of Hearts, but her interests lie elsewhere. A talented baker, all she wants is to open a shop with her best friend and supply the Kingdom of Hearts with delectable pastries and confections. But according to her mother, such a goal is unthinkable for the young woman who could be the next Queen.
At a royal ball where Cath is expected to receive the king’s marriage proposal, she meets Jest, the handsome and mysterious court joker. For the first time, she feels the pull of true attraction. At the risk of offending the King and infuriating her parents, she and Jest enter into an intense, secret courtship.
Cath is determined to define her own destiny and fall in love on her terms. But in a land thriving with magic, madness, and monsters, fate has other plans.
Happy reading everyone.
Love the cover!
My teaser today is from a YA new release about bullying. A real page-turner. https://wp.me/p3Nz8P-XL

The teaser doesn’t really take my fancy but I do love the cover. I’d have to read a bit more before making up my mind on this one. Thanks for sharing. Here’s my teaser: http://wp.me/p4DMf0-1i9

The teaser is probably not that representative of the book as it’s just one character who likes to talk in rhyme. There’s a little bit of an Edgar Allen Poe influence

Poe as in spooky or poetic?

I loved it but it’s left me with a terrible book hangover which is not so good. It was still on NetGalley last time I looked (and I look a lot)

Oh that sucks! It seems like there are no Netgalley copies left or at least I can’t request it… But I think they asked for US readers in the first place.

If you haven’t yet try Pan Macmillan. They are the UK publisher. There’s no cover so took me a while to spot.

You know, I think this is the first time I’ve seen an actual summary of Heartless! I just vaguely knew it had something to do with Wonderland! But I am all about baking, so this makes me more interested in the book.

I’m all about eating cakes which is part of what I loved about it.
