It’s WWW Wednesday time.
The WWW Wednesdays meme is currently hosted by Sam @ Taking on a World of Words and is a great way to do a weekly update on what you’ve been reading and what you have planned.
To take part all you have to do is answer the following three questions:
- What are you currently reading?
- What did you recently finish reading?
- What do you think you’ll read next?
So here’s my W’s for the week.
Currently Reading
I found out at the weekend that Pierce Brown is coming to Edinburgh this week as part of his book tour so I couldn’t resist requesting tickets. I’m not sure if I’m going to be able to get there but in the off chance I can I’m trying to read a bit more of his Mars trilogy to get up to speed. I read Red Rising a few months ago and, while I enjoyed it, I didn’t love it so took a bit of a break before reading on. I have now started Golden Son and while I’ve only managed to read a couple of chapters so far I’m definitely enjoying it.
Recently Finished
I had a bit of a reading fest over the weekend and managed to finish three books this week. First up was What Would Lizzy Bennet Do? by Katie Oliver. As you can probably guess from the title there are a few links to Pride and Prejudice (as well as some other Jane Austen) but it isn’t really the same story. Initially I was a little disappointed it wasn’t a straight re telling but once I got over that I ended up enjoying it.
The second book I read was How to Build a Girl by Caitlin Moran. It’s possible the most foul mouthed and explicit book I’ve read but I have to say I laughed my way through the whole thing and loved it. It was the perfect book to shake me out of a downer.
The final book of the week was Chasing Daisy by Paige Toon. I have to admit I chose to read this as I was looking for a book with a pink cover as part of a challenge (I know, not the most legit reason for choosing a book but never mind). It turned out to be a great read and once I started reading I couldn’t stop.
Reading Next
This week I will mostly be trying to avoid reading A Gathering of Shadows by VE Schwab which I received yesterday. It’s the sequel to A Darker Shade of Magic which I read at the start of the year and loved. It is however a book of the month on GoodReads so I’m trying to hang off so I can read along with the group. It’s very unlikely I’ll hold out.
In the event that I don’t cave I think I’m going to try reading either Flawed by Cecelia Aherne or Sleepless in Manhattan by Sarah Morgan. Both are ARC’s I received from NetGalley and favourite authors of mine so I’m looking forward to both.
Have you read any of the books above? Do you have any recommendations?
Agaghasdljasd, I totally forgot A Gathering Of Shadows came out this week! Though I need to decide whether to pay the exorbitant amount for the ebook or wait til my library gets it.
An Internet friend of mine went to a Pierce Brown event some time this week and she thought he was really great. Hope you enjoy the talk if you go!

I had it pre ordered to make sure I wouldn’t forget and it actually wasn’t too expensive. I’d probably have to wait years for the library as they don’t even have ADSoM 🙂
I’ve heard good things about Pierce’s tour too. Just hoping I can get away from work early enough to get there 🙂

It’s one of the rare occasions where I wish I was using the Amazon AU store rather than sneakily setting my account up in such a way to access the US one, as it’s only about $7 AU but $13 US, which is an amount I refuse to pay for ebooks anyway, but then there’s the exchange rate on top of that. One of my colleagues used to work at our public library and said they’re pretty good about buying anything that’s suggested, so I might fill out a suggestion form for it sooner rather than later.

I have no idea about exchange rates but it’s about £3.50 in UK if you can sneakily access that 🙂 Your library sounds really good though. Wish mine did that.

Flawed is on my TBR list as well 🙂 I read her books many years ago and don’t really remember why I stopped. I’ll read A Darker Shade of Magic next and will read A Gathering of Shadows right after.
How To Build a Girl sounds like my kind of book!! I usually read fantasy but I do swear a lot so I’ll give it a shot 🙂

How to Build a Girl was something really different for me as I tend to read mostly fantasy or chick lit but definitely enjoyed it.
I am a big fan of Cecelia Aherne but have to admit to occasionally finding it difficult to get into them. I’ve been known to start one, read a couple of chapters and give up only to go back to it months later and love it.

If you manage to hold off reading AGOS that is very, very impressive. I’m already half way through and stayed up 2 a.m. this morning to get that far! 🙂

Don’t tell me things like that or I’ll never hold out 🙂 Thankfully I am enjoying Golden Son more than I thought I would so it should keep me occupied. Although I have to admit to staring longingly at the first few pages of AGoS

So just finished and turns out Pierce didn’t give spoilers but the interviewer kinda did. Going to pretend I didn’t hear it 🙂

Well, what a jerk! Just act like you didn’t hear it and maybe you’ll forget what he said before you finish it! 😉

Wasn’t a blatant spoiler. Just hinted enough for me to guess. Plus side, I have shiny new signed copy and pic with Pierce 🙂

I want to start reading Red Rising next month; it sounds like such a great series! Flawed sounds really good as well; definitely wishlist-worthy. And I want to get my own copy of A Gathering Of Shadows so I can read both books together. 😀
Happy reading! Here’s my WWW.

Good luck delaying ‘A Gathering of Shadows!’ I loved ADSoM, too, so I’m excited to see what you think of the sequel. Happy reading and thanks for participating in WWW Wednesday!
